Sharon
Hicks likes to think of herself as a holistic visionary. As
a very small child, she discovered that she could make her
visual field jump left and right by closing one eye, and then
the other. Her natural curiosity and appreciation for the
gift of sight continued to grow, helping her to enter more
deeply into her studies as a painter, and later as a yoga
instructor and vision educator. Her discovery process continues,
and you, too, are invited to enter into a healthy, participatory
relationship with your natural vision ability.
For
more than twenty-five years, she has expressed her artistic
vision through painting and exhibiting her work. As an adjunct
faculty member of Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, she
integrated meditation and holistic philosophy into drawing
and painting classes.
Ms.
Hicks began teaching visual-motor-perceptual education in
1994 as a vision therapist. In recent years, she studied with
Deborah Redmond, founder of Red Mountain Yoga, Dr. Roberto
Kaplan, international vision educator and Dr. Ellis Edelman,
behavioral and syntonic optometrist. Continuing studies include
certificates in yoga for the special child, movement for self-healing,
Thai-yoga bodywork and Reiki.
Currently
completing clinical fieldwork for an M.S. in occupational
therapy, her expected graduation from Philadelphia University
is in the Spring of 2009. She holds a B.F.A., cum laude, from
Tyler School of Art, 1982. She also studied at The Barnes
Foundation, and served as Assistant to the Director of Education,
1987-92.
